Syncing External Calendars

Dynamically import events with an iCal feed.

About calendar syncing

Content is pulled repeatedly from a source. Unlike a one-time import, calendar syncing allows data to continually pull from the external calendar into the calendar on your site.

Syncing only goes in one direction and is read-only. Adding events to your external calendar will add them to your site’s calendar, but not the other way around.

How to sync your external calendar to your website

  1. Visit your calendar application’s help site to learn how to obtain its public iCal (.ics) feed link.

  2. After you’ve obtained the iCal (.ics) link, go to Dashboard > Events > Settings.
  3. Click the Import tab.
  4. Fill out the information under Synchronise Remote Feeds, pasting the iCal (.ics) link in the Source field.
  5. Click the Add New Feed button to save your changes.

Tips and other useful information

  • Adding an event to your external calendar (i.e., Google calendar) will automatically update your site’s calendar with the next sync; you do not need to manually sync the calendar again.
  • However, changes made to events on your site will not be pushed to your external calendar.
  • Changes made to events on your site will be overwritten if the changes weren’t also made on your external calendar.
  • All events and locations from the external calendar, including past ones, will sync. If you don’t want them to show up on the calendar on your site, delete them from the external calendar.
  • If you sync and then remove an external calendar feed, the events will remain in the Events page of your dashboard. If you decide to re-sync the feed, you’ll need to delete those events (otherwise you’ll have duplicates!).
