Embedding a Google Map

Share a map or directions from Google Maps.

Embedding a Google Map is just as easy as embedding other external content onto your site. Rather than copying and pasting a URL, Google Maps provides a unique embed code.

  1. Follow Google’s instructions to obtain the HTML, or embed, code.
    1. Be sure you are following the instructions under “Embed a map or directions” and not “Share a map or location.” Sharing will only get you a URL, whereas to embed the map, you need an embed code.
    2. Size: We recommend selecting Large for most pages; however, you can create a Custom size if you wish to set specific dimensions.
  2. Add the Custom HTML block to the page or post where you would like the map to appear and paste the code into the block.
  3. Click “Preview” to see what the map will look like on the published page.

This map was embedded following the steps above.

Notice that the map is interactive — site visitors can navigate the map and zoom in and out — and there is a link in the upper right corner to view the map in Google maps.
